Thinking Long-Term
by Becky Dean, Director with Usborne Books & More

In order to find success in this business - HUGE success -
you need to think LONG-TERM!

You'll have a 80% success rate if you are willing to stay at it for at least 3-years.  It is the nature of network marketing to have more "front-end" work w/smaller pay to be able to reap a huge financial income later w/less work.  So are you willing to work your business persistently and consistently for several years to gain that success?  I can tell you from personal experience that if you stay committed to working your business for at least 10 years - you will have unimaginable success!!  To prove this, I'll show you our actual numbers below so keep reading!

Throughout the industry…
an enormous percentage of people
quit the business in their first year.

95% of those who survive
10 years in network marketing
become wealthy beyond their wildest expectation.

Mark & Renee Yarnell - Your First Year in Network Marketing

So what do you want from UBAM?  You need to have REALLY big dreams in order to work through the tough times and stay at it for the long haul.  If money was no object, what would you want?
To pay off debt?  To earn all-expense paid vacations?  To build a dream home in the country or to own a second vacation home?  To have extra monies to fulfill your children's dreams?  To pay for college tuition?

UBAM is not a vehicle for "getting rich quick".
However, it is most definitely
a vehicle for getting RICH!
from the New Supervisor Training handbook

Do you want to be a millionaire?  I do!!  A fellow supervisor once asked me "why?" since it was obvious that I was not the kind of person who wears flashy diamonds -furs, or drives fancy cars or spends money frivolously.  And my answer was because you can do so much more to help others WITH MONEY than without it!!  Making money enables us to give thousands of dollars a year to our church and many other worthy causes.

And a mission project on my heart is Elim Christian Center in Poland.  I would love to have extra monies to re-roof the ancient and crumbling former palace where they are located or to re-do a wing of the building.  But to do that would probably take at least an EXTRA $100,000!!

So our first goal is to work our UBAM business so we can become debt-free - and then we will have the extra monies to make this dream a reality!  If you were a millionaire, who could you help?!!

It all starts with you being persistent and consistent in your business!  Start by simply doing...

One $400 show a week for 50 weeks = $5,000 a year!!
     + Sales Bonuses of $750!!
+ iPods, expensive purses, flat-screen tv's and other prizes!
+ extra books in the Home Office Challenges to resell for more money!

Just by doing one average size show a week you would make an EXTRA $5,750 + prizes/books!!
What could you do with an extra $5,000?   Pay off debt?  Buy a new car?  Remodel your house?

But you can earn MUCH MORE than that with Usborne Books & More because it is a Network Marketing company.  If you are not sure what that means, please read the speech at this link:
http://www.usborne-training.com/usborne-dream.htm  It is important to understand the "gold mine" that you have with Usborne Books & More - you just need to work it and start recruiting!!

Now selling and recruiting with Usborne Books & More is not always easy - you will face times where you get frustrated and feel like quitting.  Remember this quote from the Usborne New Supervisor manual:

UBAM is not a vehicle for "getting rich quick".
However, it is most definitely
a vehicle for getting RICH!

But the key to success is

PERSISTENTLY and CONSISTENTLY
working your business by selling and recruiting
and NEVER GIVING UP!!!

So NEVER QUIT!!  This is why...

In our first 7 years in the business this is what our personal sales and central group sales and total group NET sales looked like as indicated in the graph below:

You can see that our personal sales were pretty consistent - except when we moved to Germany in 1998.  But then you'll notice that our total group sales also suffered which brings up a good point...
You need to be working your business/setting the example if you want to see team growth.

When I started with Usborne Books in 1995, we had 4 children under the age of 6!!  Don't let kids be your excuse for not succeeding - instead work your business alongside your children and get them involved with you.  Find creative solutions on how you can find phone time and grow your business.  It was a challenge working the business with little ones and homeschooling, too!  But I saw the bigger picture right away so was willing to work through those challenges and that is why we are at where we are at today.

We promoted to supervisor in 1996 and also earned our first travel contest to Acapulco.

But then in 1998 when we had moved to Germany we did not meet the minimums required to stay a supervisor.  So we were on probation and had to work really hard to get our status back in three months.  And this was when we were moving back from Germany, selling our house in town and then moving to a rental house.  Life was BUSY!!

We moved to campers in the summer of '99 and camped on our land while we were having our house built - doing a lot of the work ourselves.  Again life was EXTREMELY BUSY!!  Oh - and did I tell you that we had to use an outhouse all summer - my office was the driver's seat of the camper - Tom was gone for guards 5 weeks that summer!! - and that we had no running hot water so we had to heat up water and do sponge baths for 4 dirty kids and ourselves for over THREE MONTHS!!

Finding time to work our business was not easy but we were committed to UBAM for the long haul and worked through the hard times.  Why?  Because we knew if we did, our business could grow like this...

Look again at our team's growth the first 7 years we were in business...

And this is how our team grew over time, as we kept working our business persistently and consistently...

WOW - isn't that an impressive jump in growth?  But just think... if we would have quit at any time during those first 7 years - we would have missed this growth and the resulting increased income!!!  That is why you should NEVER QUIT!!

Now you'll notice that in 2004 our total, central and personal net sales all dropped because we were living in Germany again - almost for 2 years this time.  Again, your own activity in this business does have a direct bearing on your team's growth - if you sit down so does your team.  Someone once said if you are "coasting" you are going downhill!!

We never stopped completely when we moved to Germany so it was easier to pick up business again when we got back.  That is a key point to remember when you have a personal crisis or issue in your life...  Keep trying to do something so that when the timing is better you can pick it up again full force and not have lost as much ground.  However, when you are bigger it is easier to lose a little and pick back up than if you lose a little when you are a smaller team and go to nothing -
so BE CAREFUL.  But either way -

You cannot "coast" in this business -
you are either moving forward or moving backward!

I certainly never regret the two times we had lived in Germany - it gave us a chance to see all the major cities in Europe and provide our children with experiences that most adults will never have!  But just think of where our team's sales would have been if we didn't have those two dips!!  WOW!

Total/Executive Group Net Sales of Tom & Becky Dean

...our total/executive group net sales would have grown OFF THE CHART!!
Which means our income would have grown along with it!! :-)

It is important when doing this business, however, not to compare yourself with others and get discouraged.

For example, Nancy Ann Wartman started just about a year ahead of me and if you compare her team's growth to mine, hers certainly went OFF THE CHART a lot earlier!!  She is the top money-maker in Usborne Books & more, making a 6-digit+ income and earned Nat'l Awards right from the beginning.  Nancy Ann has over 100 supervisors in her Grand Group!!

So obviously if you work smarter/harder at the beginning you'll find faster success - but keep in mind a favorite quote of mine:

“We can only do the best we can with what we have.
That, after all, is the measure of success;
what we do with what we have.”

Brother Luke from the book “The Door in the Wall” – italics mine

Do NOT make excuses for a lack of not working - but be realistic.  And always keep in mind in whatever place in life that you are at that it was the tortoise that actually won the race simply because he kept working and NEVER QUIT!! :)

And sometimes, yes - this business can seem like a long race...  But remember, it was the tortoise that won the race against the hare, simply because he never quit!!

In our first 6 years in business we earned ZERO Nat'l Awards.
Not all that impressive... BUT because we didn't quit and just kept plugging along with our business, we finally were able to reap the rewards starting in 2001:

Pretty impressive list of awards but remember - we earned ZERO national awards for our first 6 years in the business!!!  We had promoted to supervisor in just over a year after we started, but then was put on probation when we were in Germany the first time so had to work hard to regain it.  We had also lost our Executive Supervisor status at one point, too.

Our business definitely has had some dips in the road - but we just kept doing the best we could with what we had.

"That, after all, is the measure of success."

So how 'bout you?!

Are you willing to put forth the time and effort in your business in both sales and recruiting?
Are you in Usborne Books & More for the long haul?

I promise that if you do, you will make more money than you ever thought imaginable!! :-)
